Well hadn't been here much on the Forum, hope all is well with my fellow Bolters.... Myself, well I am very concerned about running another General tire, by no means am I Bad mouthing the company but within 1 month I have had 2 tires come apart, like I said no bashing of the company, with only about 12,000 miles on them and 32 psi and nothing in the back of my 55' 1/2 ton truck they have littery come apart at at about 55mph.. I no a lot of guys are running them. I took them back to the tire store and they now have them. Hopefully I am not getting out of line here? Thank you...᠁᠁.

You might want to check to see if your tires were included in this recall:

I did a lot of tire work many years ago. We always had trouble with General tires. I have never liked them after that. I'm sure it is different now.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

My 2010 GMC came with General Grabber tires. I have had no issue with the tires. However, like with most things these days, it appears that quality control is lax at times.

No worries about Company bashing. There's a difference between bashing and sharing negative reviews to help other 'Bolters to be informed consumers.

Sometimes, producers/retailers need a little bad press to nudge them into making needed improvements ....

In my own experience, I had a set of Generals on my '95 Dodge Duallie ...They wore prematurely and the truck would not stay running straight if I took my hands off the wheel for even a second or two. I forget what I replaced them with but once I replaced them, the truck steered like it had just been front end adjusted and aligned. Never buying Generals again, that's fer shur.

How old were the tires, there is a date code on all modern tires, in general, most tire shops refuse radial tires older than 10 years, I have had Michelin radials fail after 20 years or so. Keeping tires on the same side of the vehicle helps.

BF Goodrich, Uniroyal and Farm Bureau tires have always given me good service. I have Goodyear Polyglass on my Shelby's and Porsche powered VW's no brag just fact ! I currently have Farm Bureau 40 year old 6 ply with 6 ply sides on my oldest AD Chevy. I don't think I would want to go from Florida to California with them. However a fellow took the 43 year old tires that I gave him (Farm Bureau), tires on a trailer from FL to Indiana two years ago to pick up a 34 Dodge and had no problem. I took them off my 54-3100 because I was embarrased to have them on my show truck. The tires had crackling on them. One never knows, it seems that the unknowable have all the luck. I would love to hear all the stories of all of us about what we have done like this in the past. I think I will start a thread in the Greasy Spoon. All of you have got to have some real good stories. Huge difference, though, in how bias ply tires age versus radials, though ....

As for modern radials, I'm on my 4th set of Kumho (Korean brand) and am quite happy with all of them. 1 set was a Car and the other three have been all-season mud/snow for the truck and van. Just went off roading in West VA with the van on a worn set of Kumhos and they did great.
