One of the many things missing from the interior of my '54 3100 is the curved trim piece that finishes the base of the windshield on the dash.
I know that the 2 piece trim for an earlier split windshield is vented for the defrost air flow , but what about the 1 piece for the '54 - is it also vented?
If anyone could provide some clear images of that interior detail it would be most helpful. Sourcing would be appreciated as well.

Thank you , CK

Many a pencil has been lost behind that trim.
There is a gap between the trim and the windshield and it's a perfect place for small things to become trapped. If you try to retrieve them, the windshield is in the way of your hand and fingers.
It's not one of Chevy's best designs but it is what it is.
The clips for the trim act as a standoff.

So - If I understand correctly , the trim piece is set back from the windshield , the defroster vents in the top of the dash are in the gap between the trim and the glass , and therefor the trim piece is not ventilated.

Did I get that straight?

Yes. The 54/55 trim is also expensive because they are becoming hard to find.

Maker of Buoys -

Thank you for the explanation and illustrations. The few used pieces I have found are very pricey indeed. Is the trim piece in the picture above one that you have installed , or by any chance is it up for grabs?

Anyone know of a source for a repro piece? I prefer original parts , but for that trim piece I could live with a reproduction.

The name Buoymaker came from a print hanging on my wall. The title is "Where the buoys are" which is a play on words from a 1960 movie "Where the boys are".
There is an old retired seaman selling buoys on the seashore. He's sleeping on a homemade driftwood chair and a seagull is standing on his big belly.

Sorry. Copied the picture from ebay. You could probably make something that will fit but not look the same as original.
There is a discussion currently going on about making the clips out of steel bands used for packaging.

To be honest , I remember when “Where The Boys Are” came out.
Pretty sure that the hit theme song was by Connie Francis.
