Hi, I just picked up a 1951 Chevrolet 1\2 ton no motor or trans. It has a Mustang 2 kit on it with a power rack plans are a 350 and a turbo 350. My question is what style motor mounts are you using and are you welding to the cross member or right behind it? Never messed with this set up before. Thanks Steve

The accepted way is to place the engine exactly where you want it in the engine bay and fabricate the motor mounts to your specific measurements. I’m sure there are kits specifically for this particular swap and someone will be along to link you up.

I've used an empty engine block with a shelled-out transmission case bolted to it as a jig for fabricating custom motor mounts. Add a couple of bare cylinder heads to the block and you can mock up the exhaust system at the same time.

You can also buy plastic mock-up engines. I think I've seen them at Summit Racing, but they're probably more expensive than buying a real junk engine. LIghter, though. grin

I used a kit similar to this on my first project. I never did finish it, so I can’t speak to how well it would have worked while driving/running.

I never did get to mocking up the steering shaft. I suspect it might hit. I used block hugger headers on the 350 engine.

When I installed mine the mounts welded directly into the inner side of the m2 crossmember somewhere. It will be a learning experience for you. Go slowly.

if you have the block and trans you could just cradle the assembly in place and get some measurements. Almost any aftermarket parts supplier will have a basic mount kit, Speedway sells brackets and mounts separately. If you knew who the manufacturer of the MII kit was you could contact them for assistance. Mocking up the engine and trans is really the only way to deal with clearance issues and work out your options. Just remember measure and then measure again, and one more time couldn't hurt.

Making motor mounts. No matter what style, it helps to place the engine and trans where you want them to end up. Visualize where all the add on stuff is going to go. Point the back of the trans at the rear axle. Engine angle can be different for carb vs EFI. Mock up, mock up, mock up!

Mark- - - -are those motor mounts made from control arm bushings? Looks like a good idea!

Hey Jerry. Rear Chevy truck spring bushings. I borrowed the idea. http://www.how-to-build-hotrods.com/custom-motor-mounts.html

I love that you have the blower on there.

I'd tell more, but that would be stealing this thread. Maybe I'll do a quick blurb over at the Greasy Spoon.

A 350 weighs LESS than a stovebolt six, by a considerable amount. If anything, the front end will ride a little higher.
