Hello Folks: Two questions. One here, one elsewhere. Upon reflection, both here: (1) Can anyone assist interpreting VIN for '63 C60? VIN = 3C653S152092. Have called Chevy for Restoration Pack but have been told is too old and information will not be complete. Help...
(2) Four wires from firewall plug. One wire is hot continuously regardless of ignition switch position, one hot with ignition 'on' (to coil??)and one to solenoid "S" terminal to start and other for water temp sensor. Question: What does "R" on solenoid terminal mean? Where does the always-hot wire go and why? All help appreciated. /s/ Stubby

Restoration Pack won't answer your electrical questions. I've received REstoration Packs on my trucks built in the '50s so I'm surprised they say your '63 is too old...

1955 1st GMC Suburban | 1954 GMC 250 trailer puller project | 1954 GMC 250 Hydra-Matic | 1954 Chevy 3100 . 1947 Chevy COE | and more...
It's true. I really don't do anything but browse the Internet looking for trouble...

I had the same problem with the restoration package for my 49. Frist time I call for one they said they did not have them for that year. Was advised to call back by some of the guys at stovebolts and try again. They said I might have got a lazy person the first time. Secound time was a charm, have package coming, was told it was not spacificlly for my truck size, but year class.

So try calling them back till the send you something. good luck.

Most '63 to '74 vehicles used a points and condenser system, with a resistance wire enclosed in the harness (from the firewall to the coil). The wire (yellow) from the "R" terminal of the GM solenoid routes to the "plus" terminal of the ignition coil, and its purpose was to bypass the ballast resistor during cranking for hotter spark. If you have an electronic igniton, there is no need for this wire.

update on restoration package,

I am shocked received my package yesterday, was told it might take 6-8 weeks to receive. So if you have not called them back try again. lots of good stuff in there. they sent me a package for both 1949 cars and trucks.

good luck with getting yours.
