Hey all, does anybody out there know if there is a good source for an OE style blinker switch assy? I've been looking around and have had no luck with the findings old style or.... period period correct.
Do a search for “vintage turn signal switch” on eBay and you will get both new and old, period correct switches for your ‘53. To my knowledge, the GM didn’t make them back then.

Something you might try. The turn signal switch assembly for a 53-54 car is the same as used on 55-59 TF trucks. I think there is a good possibility it could be adapted to your 53 truck as well. Fred

The Truck Shop catalog shows a 54-56 switch and a 57-59 switch. Brothers has them also. The only difference would be the angle of the lever for the flat vs the dished wheel. You should be able to use the cancelling plate as well. Fred

The ‘54 has a different steering wheel than the ‘53 and there was no option for signal lights in ‘53. I don’t know for sure but I think you would have to change the steering column to adapt the 54-55 signal switch.

As said, there is no OE for trucks, but there is period correct. In 1953 cars, a "Factory optional Accessory" turn signal was available. Made by "Guide". Self cancelling. It was an integral unit blended into the steering wheel. Maybe one of those 1953 car units would work for a truck?...or from a 54 truck as Phil suggested.
The period correct column mount unit of choice for trucks would have been a Guide brand. Owned by GM. Self cancelling. Available at dealers. Accessory shops.
I use electronic self cancelling turn signal switches from a Kawasaki motorcycle for $20 or you can buy an after market kit for $100. One of my cars has a right and left momentary button and the other has a return to center toggle switch on a column mounted stalk. A quick push and the signal blinks 11 times then shuts off. A one second push and it blinks 21 times and cancels. Impossible to forget signal is on. On the right-left button one if you push both buttons you have 4 way flashers till you manually cancel. They were used on motorcycles because you can't hear the clicking over the motor and can't see the indicator light(s) in bright sun light.
53 and me Found a 7 wire guige at the junkyard.got a wiring diagram internet, wired it all-up crazy as could be !! Shot it with tuner cleaner worked fine after that. 7 wire interlocks your stop lights with turn signals, takes only 3 wires to the rear of the truck. Try e-bay, get tuner cleaner amazon or electronic repair like frey.
