All new cars have them on the drivers side which makes more sense. Is this general knowledge or am I missing something. My guess is that back in the day the traffic laws were not set yet and it was safer to get in on the passenger side and slide across the bench seat so you did not get hit by passing motorists. Or could this be just a Farm/work thing??
Anyone know??

Made sense to her to have it on the passenger side. I don't buy it though... I just toss her the key, on my way out the door, and tell her to lock my side as well. You may not exit your vehicle into traffic.
With practically every vehicle being equipped with bucket seats, you can see why it's not enforceable. You'd think they'd take it off the books.
