Without looking closely, I've always assumed that 1954/55 1st hoods were "one year only".
Some after market sellers advertise 1947-54. In case this is ever a Jeopardy question.

In case you are ever asked this Jeopardy question, the 1 and 1/2 year only answer is the correct answer (1954 and 1955st).

I’m a newbie at this, so does that mean it was only sold on those models, but could fit the other years if the cowl, fenders, etc relation didn’t change?

The change in the hood has to do with the change in the grille. Otherwise it would fit. Fenders and cowl were the same (as far as the hood interface goes) from 47-55.1 models.

I believe the fenders for a 1954 and 55 it’s series are a bit different in the area were on a gmc and chev have there signal lights in the grill ,therefore the fender has a recessed area behind that area .

The only difference between the '47.1-54/55'1 hoods are how the holes are made for the front badge. Those holes are in the same spot. The difference is the earlier holes are recessed, whereas the '54/55.1 holes are flush. I believe that this difference does not interfere with attaching whatever year front badge you want to use on whatever year hood that you have.
Throughout the AD years, there are holes differing in number and location for the side badges.
I have a '49 truck with a '54 hood. It fits like a glove.
