My 1951 4400 was repainted at some point in its life and while it was repainted the original green, the grill, which was white originally, was painted green also. So I would like to make it white again and wonder how much disassembly is required to remove so it can be sand blasted or stripped? I actually just got it back today from a mechanic friend who had the engine out to replace all the gaskets so I haven't really looked at closely. Big job?
Thanks for comments!

Can't be done.
Well, that's what you will think once you try to get to all of the fasteners that hold it on. smile
I hope that you don't have sausage fingered catchers mitt hands.

It can be done, but it's not easy. Just start removing all the fasteners you can find.

But if the grille was originally painted, it would have been the same color as the truck, with the rear bars painted white.

If you're smart enough to take it apart, you darn well better be smart enough to put it back together.

Interesting. I thought I have seen pictures of trucks with white grills and the white on the supports behind made me think it was once a white grill. Odd that they would paint the structure behind the grill white I think. Another task to cross off the list!

Here's a vintage pic of the front end of a '53. You can see the lighter color inner grille bars, along with the painted bumper and hubcaps that were standard in that year. For '53 the inner grille bars, bumper and hubcaps were all painted Thistle Gray. In earlier years, inner grille bars were painted Waldorf White.

But it's your truck and if you want a white grille, go for it. thumbs_up
