I am working on sprucing up my 53 3100 P.U. and trying to determine it`s original color to match the paint . As the photo shows there is "j. Green "scratched into the metal on the passenger side cowl under the hood. Would this have been done at the factory or by a body shop or previous owner? A professional resto guy said he had never seen this type marking from a factory. There appears to be only the original(??) grey primer and topcoat on the truck.as far as layers go. I purchased a quart of Juniper green from Jim Carter and painted the firewall and inside of hood as a test color but appears much more blue green than current color which has seen rubbing compound and wax. According to the Stovebolt paint tech tip and the '53 Vehicle Info Kit, Juniper Green replaced Forester Green as the standard paint color in '53 and later models, but your truck's original color sure looks like Forester Green to me. The cab pinstriping would have been cream for either Forester Green or Juniper Green. Maybe your truck was an early production in that model year and was painted with leftover Forester Green. Maybe the painter was Joe Green and wanted to autograph his work. You might try and match it up with Forester Green and see if it's closer.

Concur with cmayna -- if the green on the cowl is the original paint, then we need to see the rest of the truck! Love the look of aged original finishes like that.

In the 45 years since I dropped out of the corporate rat race and started restoring/rodding cars andtrucks we have probably done several hundred AD trucks with ONLY TWO restorations. This 53 is supposed to be Forester Green and it looks darker than yours. Truck sold within a hour of arriving at swap meet so guess we should have done more.
Maybe the painter was Joe Green and wanted to autograph his work.
