I was trying to find out what my truck actually is,it´s supposed to be a ´51 6400.
engine prefix is HAM,wich would be a ´50 216,
and the tag on the drivers side door post just says NS 23,nothing more, any ideas?

Do you know where the truck was built?

The number schemes seem to vary from country to country...

Got the answer, or just have the truck?

What numbers are on that original plate, and does it say where the truck was built?

ok,I was a little unclear:I got the truck home a week ago,I got a hold of the original Licence plate, that´s what I ment,I checked the plate on the door post again today,it just says serial no:NS 23,thats it,whith the original licence plate number,I can order the a copy of the last registration papers that the truck had,so when those arrive,I know for sure what it is,I need those anyway to get it back on the road legally here,I´m going to try brake the engine free tommorrow,it´s been sitting for a while whith diesel in the cylindres, but I´m not very hopefull, last time the truck ran was in ´67!

NS 23 doesn't add up to anything for me.

The engine prefix does seem to be a '50 216, but from a sedan delivery, not a medium duty truck.

When you have more information post it and I'll see if I can do anything with it.

well, the doors have vent windows,so that would be 51-53,is there any number on the trans that could tell the year of production?if I could prove that it was made before 51-01-01,it would get the 50 model when I put it back in traffic, and a 50 or older vehicle here,is inspected every 3 yrs,a vehicle 30yrs or older is inspected every 2 yrs,so it would save som time and money.

engine unstuck today, turns freely, there´s one exhaust valve thats a little unhappy yet,but I´ve drowned it in lube,so tomorrow I was hoping i would get it started,I´m going to take the oil pan down first, and clean the oil-scoopers on the rods, just in case.

Both the trans and axle should have numbers on them. I don't recall if those numbers indicate when the units were built. If I remember long enough I'll look when I get home tonight.

Assuming those units have not been replaced a date code would only tell you the truck was made no earlier than that date.

Could your 1950 motor be what you need to call it a '50 or earlier?

I've seen people update the doors just to get wing windows. It could have been done to this truck too.

My source says that year is part of the code on rears and transmissions. It does not cover big trucks, so I may not be able to identify the year on the rear, but I think it will work on the transmission.

Send me the number once you have it, and I'll take a look.

Well I'm glad that part is cleared up but I'd still be interested in what assembly line it came down. Is it left hand drive?

Could this be an old NATO Army truck? Maybe that's why the s/n is different...

16000# GVW is correct for the 6000 Series trucks.

A 51 is usually the easiest to identify since it is the only year with vent windows and a pull down to open outside door handle. Through 50 no vent and 52 up pushbutton handles.

I know what you are going through with your rig. Here in the U.S. when the goverment sells to the private sector the title states the year that the rig was sold. I have an old M38 willys that the title says it is a 48 but through much research I found out it is a 43. now I get the right parts that I need. I found that ebay is a good place to find the old military manuals, that give all the numbers that were used back then. Good luck.
