My car is a '35 Standard. Here is a pic from about 1995. My Son was on his way to Prom. I recently bought new black tries and powder coated my wheels in the correct color. I gave it a fresh look but I could not find a photo on my desktop. I have owned this car since 1973
Ok, Qubie is a '35, not a '39, but she's close. She came with a single left side rear light with two single filament bulbs, the upper is the stop and the lower is running/license plate illumination. No turn signals.
She also had two 4" reflectors in the back. I bought a pair of LED trailer lights and a cheap 6-12 volt converter online. I replaced the two reflectors with the LED lights. Much better running and stop illumination.
I still have no turn signals. I replaced my original stop lamp with an LED light, running off the same 6-12 volt convertor. The running light is still a bulb, as the glass envelope of the bulb is a required part of the design. It seals against the rubber ring to stop water intrusion.
I'm sure that your right light is just a left without a lower socket (stop only, no running). The extra piece is there (as mentioned before), because it's cheaper to just leave it in.
I spoke to Jim Carter about the tail lamp situation. I think the deal is, as I suggested in a previous post, just something that slipped through the cracks. Jim has a sizable organization and neither he, nor his staff members can know everything about every truck in their scope of interest. He is sending me one of the lamps so I can try to find a (somewhat) simple solution to the problem. Stay tuned.

Mike B I really like the '35 Master, but they are so scarce that I have never had the opportunity to look one over, "up close and personal". They are unique in that they are the only Chevy ever built with front suicide doors. The survival rate must be pretty low. Knee action probably contributed to the survival rate as well.
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the light!
As for the '35 Master's they are rare for a few reasons, first they had a short production year (Jan thru Sept), they still had wood in the body, they have the last mechanical brake system and they were forced to stay in service thru the end of WWII, which by then they were really worn out.

Here is a bit of an update on the tail lamp. Jim sent a lamp to me so I could have a look. I don't know exactly how this lamp came to exist but I think it was a mistake on the part of the vendor. I made, and sent to Jim, a crude prototype of a part which would make the lamp "whole" and fully functional as a RH add on and still retain the 2 bulb configuration. He said he had a local guy who might be able too make the part. This conversation took place yesterday.
It is indeed great to have access to Jim directly, and I am sure he is very thankful that you are helping him to improve his existing stock and therefore be able to sell all those R/H lamps... I am returning mine and ordering 2 L/H units, which unfortunately and on back order. I have been unable to get a clear answer as to when they will materialize, so...
