I am wanting to remove the old torque tube and install a newer rear axel I have a 5 speed out of an s-10 to go in it but im having a hard time with finding a rear axel to go under, heres why I want the rear axel to be 6 lug, so i thought a chevy luv its to narrow, a nissan its to narrow, a full size chevy WAY TO WIDE , does anyone know of a newer rear axel that would work ? i know the S-10 axel is where everyones going but I just like the 6 lug look. Thank you all for the help in advance

Your width on your 49 is 60" and has a 4.11 ratio. A 55 to 59 has an open driveshaft, six lug wheel bolt pattern, a 3.90 ratio, and is 61" wide or 1/2" on each side---not a problem for either tire or the overdrive transmission.

I have a 2001 Nissan Xterra six lug axle on my "50. It is the correct width, 6 lug Chevy bolt pattern, and Limited slip. The only issue is the ratio at 4.64, but my T-5 overdrive transmission works very nicely with it. Later Xterra have ratios in the low "3's" but come with disc brakes.
