I just dropped the oil pan from a motor that has been sitting for years and found the pickup screen to be covered in goo. Is any of it serviceable without removing the entire oil pump assembly. By the way, glad I didn't find any acorns in this one. I was hesistant to try to turn the canister or the tube. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,832 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,832 | Back in the day of non detergent and some times paraffin based oil it was standard procedure to pour some gas on the screen and set it on fire---it burns for a l-o-n-g time. A tap on a hard surface and a puff from an air gun gave it a like new look.

For your 1959 you will need the 1958 Manual and the 1959 Supplement. The gasket will likely tear and you can’t find one or cut just any material. Looks like the tube where it fits into the pump housing might be a friction fit rather than threaded. I think I might have just enough room to wiggle it off. You will need to remove the pump or the cover to remove the pickup tube.
