This actually is pretty easy once you do it a few times. I did move your post about the truck not starting to the Big Bolts forum.
If you have any ?? about using the forums, on the intro page, there's a pretty good FAQ section. Norselander even did a good job making some images with arrows and everything.
And ... while we're here ... welcome!!

The only thing I can think of is the points maybe getting damaged some how. May also just be a coinsidence too, Scott | | | | Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 52 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 52 | who gives a rip about the truck - I want that excavator!

Make 100% sure that your welding ground is as close to what you are welding as possible and that you are not getting any transient amperage running around throughout the truck frame and electrical system.
Welding currents wandering around looking for the ground will fry the coil, points, regulator and anything else that can be discovered.
But thow can that be? Well, trucks are fraught with rusty connections that divert electrons from intended paths, and welding amperage will walk through rust and look for unintended paths of least resistance.
Drivin' down a 2 lane country road in a stovebolt.....cowboy, it don't get no better than this!
