Ok, I have hatched rather a cunning plan (if I do say so myself) to get a COE project into our shed. But shipping might be a small problem, so can someone with an advance design (47-55) COE still on the standard chassis and tyres please tell me how high it is to the highest point on the top of the cab from the ground. I don't think it's going to be a problem but if anyone still has the bed on theirs then how high from the ground to the top of the wood bed.
And nearly forgot, an empty vehicle (net) weight. Since it was a 2 ton it should be about 4400 lbs I think? Thanks in advance since I know it will entail some mucking about. smile

COEs vary is size by quite a bit . . . the difference in cab height and wheel track width is significant between the'48 Chevy COE and the '53 GMC COE (as in 10 inches in height / 6 inches in width) that I have - we will need a VIN# to provide accurate information. If you are an inch off in the wrong direction . . . only a sledge hammer can fix it at the last minute before the trailer / container / boat leaves.

Then I am sort of stuck as I've only just started looking and haven't physically got to one with a tape measure yet. It will be a Chevy but if your GMC is higher then can you give me a measurement for that and I can talk to the shipping co and see which ballpark I'm in.

Thanks

I had short wb and would fit in 8ft high door except the cab lights. Take wheels off or lower air to drop some. Weight is gonna depend on bed and length, wood or metal. I'm thinking your truck will be closer to 6000 or 6500 lbs empty. I've had several big rigs driving last few years, and most were in that range or even 7000 with good load of gas and big bunch of tools and jacks on it to fetch the next one! Rear duals can be taken off to allow to roll on standard width car hauler trailers. You can handle short wheelbase on those trailers if no bed on it, or light one. I use tow bar to get most of ones I dragged home. Remove bumper, make adapters to fit frame ends, attach draw bar. Use light bar attached to back to have lights! Plug it into trailer light connector on tow truck. Truck will follow w/out a driver, go slow and backroads. I've gone up to 150 miles this way.

Ok, thanks for all that. It has to go on a truck, if it isn't drivable, to get it to the port but it then needs to go on a ship and my plan is to put a car on the bed and ship that too. Which is why it is going to take a little juggling of the numbers (sizes, weights, dimensions) to get it all to work.
