I am ready to bolt the bed to the frame and need to be sure I am counter sinking the holes in the wood the right diameter. The Forstner bit size I have been told is 1 & 9/16. This appears to be at least 1/8" larger all the way around my offset washer. Just want to be sure and know that some of you bolters have the answer. Thanks in advance
Helpful string. In addition to that: I have a 1952 3/4 ton longbed and am getting ready to install new boards. I ordered the bolts to attached the wood to the frame. I see where the six 6" bolts go but where do the two 12" bolts go? Thanks in advance Phil

Longer bolts would be at the front of the bed, going all the way thru the frame.

Ok. Checked and I see where holes are on top and bottom of the frame on the right side up front but only on the top of the frame on the left. As long as it's bolted to the frame I'll assume it's not critical if only through the top on one side. Thanks!
I think they need to go all the way thru, because the crossmember braces would be in the way of getting nuts on. You should check again on the left side.

Mine only has the long bolt on the fromt passanger side. That one goes through both parts of the frame. Drivers side of frame is only drilled on top. 1-9/16 worked perfect on my washers. Only thing I can say is if you pre drill the holes use a tiny bit because the fostner bit dosent like a pilot hole. Mine walked around pretty bad but then again i was using a cordless drill and just kinda winged it with a pre drilled hole that it chased around and made a few too big.
My truck definitely has holes drilled thru both top and bottom of the frame on both sides. So we're two with one long bolt and one with two long bolts. It would definitely be a PITA to tighten the nut, because the crossmember gusset would be in the way. Here's a couple of pics.

Yea its still do-able. Mines in but i never understood why they did it like that. Hell i don’t understand why they did anything with the bed portion of these trucks. Very odd setup that always made me scratch my head saying “why??” But hey it was how they did it back then.
