For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 1995 Posts: 5,726 24601 | | 24601 Joined: Nov 1995 Posts: 5,726 | Hey gang -- the lady below needs a photo or two to help her understand what saddle tanks are. Any help is appreciated! She'll be checking back here or you can email her directly. Regards, John Here's her email to me: I'm a writer doing a story for a man whose first job was driving a 1953 Chevy flatbed -- he says there was a saddle tank behind the truck cab -- I'm looking for a pix that would show such a tank -- what is he referring to and where would I look for a pix? I've browsed your site and enjoyed the old pix -- but I am totally ignorant about old cars and new ones!
Thanks for any reply --

You can see the tank situated behind the cab. There is an identical tank on the other side and they are connected by a structure that is sort of like a platform. It 'hangs' over the frame like a saddle might. It can be filled from either side. Some of the trucks of today have 'side saddle' tanks. They are just tanks on the frame on either side of the truck. Hope this helps. That's a perfect picture of a 'saddle' tank. Here's another one that's not as good but still descriptive of that 'saddle' sytle tank. http://www.whitemetal-model-reviews.co.uk/us_model_mint%2027.htm Cheers, George | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,144 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,144 | The tanks on my grandfathers 47 AD were set up like those in Spankys and the internationals | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,144 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,144 | COE junkie I got my class A license on a international like the one in your picture it was a 62 and I was pulling a 38 foot dry van with it. This was in 1981 and the truck was pretty wore out but it passed inspection so I could take the test. Enjoyed the picture | | |
