Before you slay me on this question, just wondering if anyone has seen this before. It must have been added for support along with the bracing added on the front frame.

I’m not sure about the ‘57, but the original fender braces on my ‘52 attached from the firewall to the fenders, about a third of the way back from the front. It looks like the same brackets (originally attached to the fenders) and the rods were lengthened.

Nice looking engine bay. Your right they had added on to the rods mounted from the fire wall. That makes it easy to leave them off. Thanks.

Thanks for the compliment! I would not be so quick to leave them off. On my ‘52 they are a vital part for the support of the front fenders and I would think they would have a similar function on your ‘57.

I agree will Phil. There are very precise measurements in the factory assembly manual as to the adjustment.

You guys have me scratching my head now about some rods that I have in the extra parts pile from when I got my truck smile

I'm pretty sure I have those braces on my radiator support as well (on my '57 Chevy Panel Truck)

EDIT: I just added the pic of the braces on my '57 radiator support. The brace is there.

In addition to the above post, I found my original rods, and have started to prep and paint them for installation. They mount to the firewall via 5/16" bolts (the holes are pre-threaded).

I'd have them installed in my truck already, but I'm in my nice clothes, and was told I can't work on my truck until later, after the family meal frown

The braces are also visible in this pic of another '57 Panel Truck that I saw online. It looks like the owner felt that the rods were not needed... I personally think they add character to the year of the vehicle.
