on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2021 Posts: 28 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2021 Posts: 28 | I am looking for the parking brake cables that go to rear drums on the right and left side. These cables seem to be unique to the 1ton pickup. Has anyone found a source for them?

I have not ordered it -s | | | | | Joined: Sep 2018 Posts: 31 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2018 Posts: 31 | The 1 ton cable from Jim Carter have the ball type ends, which in theory would require ordering their parking brake cable clip (ME168) as well so you could use your stock parts to connect the cable to the brakes (at least I had to on my '49 1 ton). However, in practice it didn't go so smoothly. The ball didn't fit in the cable clip, and the cable clip was too small for the parking brake actuator hook. So if you can modify your original "clip" piece from old cables to accept the new ball, that may be the best bet. I called and emailed Jim Carter about the misfitting parts and got no responses or help at all, just FYI.

I lightly sanded the rusted spot on the cable that was causing the problem and lubed the cable until it moved freely. Then clean it off and dried everything.I used a small induction heater to get the clevis and yoke off of the cable. Rethreaded the fasteners. I put everything back together and parking brake works perfectly. I do appreciate your help, I will keep the information you provided on file and if I have to replace the cables in the future, I will know where to start looking. James S | | |
