I have a 1960 Chevy C-10. I am attempting to replace the lower and upper bearing of the steering column shaft. The pic shows where I need help. I assume this race with the felt seal is all that is left of the original lower bearing and needs to be removed. Is that right? I took the rust off the shaft with an emery cloth and the new bearing slides on fairly easy.
With the advise of my mechanic I removed what was the old race and felt seal. That part solved. I now need the upper bearing/horn cable assembly. It's not available from LMC. I'll be checking with 456 Chevy as well as the sources listed on here. If anyone has a known source could you please post it on here?

I bought clutch fan blade and a 292 engine sticker from them a few months back, and about a week ago I got a nice catalog with parts for my '65 that I have been trying to find for years to no avail.

My truck, a 65 C10, had this same issue. Many times the area on the steering shaft the lower bearing runs on is badly worn and the lower bearing or bushing replacement won't fix it. Plus, it's a hell of a lot of work to get the steering shaft out. I fixed mine by installing a nylon bushing in the lower portion without taking the shaft out. It's been working well for 3 years now. It's not really a bushing, it's a nylon quick release tool.
I’m late to post this info, but here it is for those interested. I made a 4 part DIY over a year ago on how to refurbish and repair a 1963 C10 steering column. Many sections will apply to 1964-72 columns as well. The 1960-62 columns are different animals but still have similarities. The original design of the lower bearing is not very good. Very nice write up Lugnutz. Good photos as well. I've done both a '63 and a '62 column. Most of what you show for the '63 will work for the '60-62 as well. Turn signals are a different critter though.
