The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Interiors instrument gauge cluster removal

I have a 1960 C-10. I am replacing a few gauges and fixing some wiring issues. It is extremely difficult to take the cluster out. Is there a trick to getting it out?

Comes out the front very easily once the wires and tubes and speedo are "released". Some things need undoing, some just unfolded. Depends on what you are doing. It can hang for some repairs and some need to go to bench. It's a dance, like everything else. Pull, look, examine, pull, release, pull gently, observe. If you are not taking to the bench and going to work with some of it hooked up, it's good to take steering wheel off.

Hope this helps . When I have one that is very stubborn I have found that the lip that joins the bezel to the speedo housing catches the dash surround . It seems not matter how hard you try they will not come out. I some times put a screwdriver or thein metal between the cluster and the dash . Still not easy but eventually. Good luck

Thanks for the responses. The issue is as triplep describes. The lips on the cluster get caught on the surround. The cluster just seems too large. Like it has expanded over time as bartamos said. I'll look at the speedo housing more closely the next time. Thanks

It is the speedo housing that is the major hang up. I filed a few places down. It fits much better. Thanks.
