Wonder what a good company is for insurance on my 49 3100. Nothing fancy, not restored, just drive locally. Have 2 newer vehicles for personal use only. Probably put less than 2000 mi total on vehicles in a year. Just need basic coverage on truck, no comprehensive or collision. Thanks

Hagerty is easy to use and you can do it all while sitting at your computer.

I third Hagerty. The price isn't too bad. I've not tried to make a claim though, so not sure how the customer service would add up.

I go thru State Farm, with all the rest of my stuff.

Hagerty is what we use. Check out their towing option too. They will include towing on all of your vehicles and trailers.

I’ve been thinking about calling them also. I have mine insured through geico and im pretty sure i wouldn’t get squat through them if mine was wrecked.

I have Hagerty and really like them. I also used them for my Vette and it's way cheap. You choose how many miles per year and what value you want on the vehicle and they give you a quote. When I called them about insuring the big bolt they said they didn't have anything to compare it to but they'd figure something out. Another plus is I like to keep things as local as possible and they have some advertising offices in my hometown Ann Arbor.

I have mine with American Collectors Insurance. My policy insures me for collision and comp (fire /theft) along with liability. They also cover it while it’s being towed on a trailer. I do have some restrictions (no daily driver), but allows for driving to car shows, events such as parades and an occasional jaunt. The expected yearly mileage is 1,000 or so (they never asked for the existing mileage on the truck so I don’t know how they would keep track of it). Doesn’t sound that good until you find out what this type of coverage costs. My collision coverage at present is 12K (collision) and it only cost $180 yearly. As I work on the truck and increase the value, I can raise the coverage, but it’s really reasonable.

I spent 40+ years in an interesting niche of the insurance business. GEICO, Hartford, State Farm, Progressive or whoever you're comfortable with will be just fine and in a moment I'll tell you about another one. All those companies are very good on liability claims and those are the claims that take you to the courtroom. I don't purchase physical damage (collision, comprehensive, etc). I could tell you more about why, but it sounds like you just want liability coverage. By the way, Hagerty is just an agency...not a company. Not saying anything bad about them...I think they do a fine job at what they do, but some folks seem confused and seem to think of them as an insurance company. I said I'd mention a company known for good claims work. I give very high marks to American Modern Insurance Company. Those folks still operate like insurance companies did 50 years ago and they're as strong financially as they can be. A+ rating from AM Bests, and there isn't a rating higher than that.

Also, if I want to drive my pickup every day of the week, if I want to drive 25,000 or more miles a year or drive from here to Canada, I don't want any limitations in my coverage at all. Almost every insurance company will offer you a lower rate if you agree to drive 6000 miles or less per year and if you have multiple vehicles. Good luck on this. Personally I'd call the agent who handles my other personal lines (homeowners, auto, etc) and see what he/she can offer you. See if that agent represents American Modern if you're curious. I promise you they won't blanch if you ask them to insure your 49 pickup. They do that all the time.

Interesting about the towing. I purchased my 1986 pickup mainly for towing my tent trailer. I also am happy with Hagerty. Inexpensive and easy. Haven't had a claim and hope it stays that way.

I have had JC Taylor insurance on my 37 Buick for about 40 years. With a declared value of 10k, One million liability, 300 thousand each medical, fire, theft, etc.the annual premium for 30 years was $96 but may have gone up in the last few years. Not as many limitations as some of the others. Of course never having filed a claim may have bearing of my premium.
