We have managed to successfully accumulate 3 of the 4 pieces in a '49 3100 under-frame spare tire mount. We all know how difficult these are to find because they are a miserable design and most got thrown into the scrap pile after one use.
The part we are missing the bracket that mounts the wheel with 2 bolts. It is the smallest part of the 3 in the picture. Everyone we talk to indicates this is the most difficult of the 4 pieces to find.
We think that the best approach now is to fabricate one. That means we need to borrow one as pattern or get pictures with dimensions.
Are there any suggestions for who we could contact to get these details? Obviously we would be willing to travel a reasonable distance or pay shipping both ways to borrow a part. We are located where I-80 crosses the Mississippi River.
I have this unit installed on my '47. You are correct, these are extremely difficult to find........
I'll be happy to take some pictures and measurements, if that will help you out. You are more than welcome to take a 'road trip' to Iowa City, if you prefer that option.
I gotta look under my truck. I don't remember that particular part.

I might have that part. I was trying to obtain parts for my '37; very different than this set up and it came with some of the parts I needed. It may be a week or two before I am back up to my place where the part is. If it is the correct one you can have it for the shipping. Kent
Hello to all and many thanks for the great responses.
Andy: We really appreciate your offer. It is definitely worth a short road trip to meet you and see your truck. I am often in the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids area for various reasons.
I will contact you at the end of the month to arrange a visit.
Kent: If you have that part we are definitely interested!
Rusty, I will send you a private message after I take a look at what I have. By the way, this must be an eastern Iowa thread. I am originally from Iowa City. Kent
Rusty, The pictures posted by Harold sure look like what I remember having. Mine is not as pretty; has surface rust but should be serviceable. Be patient, I should be back up to my place in a week or so and will check. I will private message you with shipping cost and you can have it. Kent
It's been a while since I lasted posted. One reason is that due to all the help from this forum we do have the '49 3100 on the road and the owner is enjoying it!
There is one feature on the sliding tire carrier bracket that caught us by surprise initially. There is a small stamped steel housing that is welded off-center of the hole for the J-bolt. It somewhat interferes with the special nut we got from Steve at Mongo's Garage.
At first we were thinking about removing the stamping. I think i figured out why that stamped part if there.
It appears to be where the spare tire carrier lock fits. I cannot find great pictures of that lock. It appears to have the hole for the J-bolt off to one side. The whole part (which I think is a casting of some type) rests inside the stamped part.
Is my thinking correct?
I also know that the chances of finding that part are almost non-existent!
