I have a 48 chevy body I am planning to drop onto my 2006 lbz work truck.

I am running to ideas through my head on how to do it!

Do I .........

1) take the whole 06 body off, pull all the electrical crap, mechanical gummines etc then drop the body on the frame and make it work

OR

2) dissect the 06 body leaving the floorpan/ firewall in place with as much of the original equipment in place then cut out the floorpan/firewall of the 48 body and make good the junction between the bodies.

There are pros and cons for both,

Any ideas???

You could always start with your option 2) see how it looks at the point where you have the 06 floor and firewall hanging out and exposed; then you will have a better idea as to whether or not it is the way to move forward; you can do this and make a decision before doing any cutting on the 48.

If it does not look like it is the right direction at that point you can always fall back on your option 1).

I have never carried out option 2) myself. But i have seen a blend of new & old built in that fashion.

Are the front tires on the ‘06 going to stick out of the ‘48 front fenders?

I don't think so as she is a pretty wide old gal.

I did sit the cab on a Tahoe frame a few years ago and it wasn't far off. I'm going to throw a few measurements soon

I read about a similar swap on another site. The firewall is narrower, so the donor firewall had to be trimmed quite a bit with some things getting shifted around.

Right I've managed to have a measure. The 06 chassis is 44" wide at right behind the cab. On the 48 cab, I've got 49.5" between the rocker panels so the cab would sit over the chassis.

According to GM upfitters, the body on the 06 is 77" wide fender to fender. The 48 is 75" wide fender to fender so not a million miles away.
