Hi All-

I ordered a replacement clutch kit for my '51, and it is not correct (smaller diameter). So, I looked at the '54 kit, and albeit a larger diameter, it does not appear that the holes all line up.
So, my question is, what exact drivetrain might this be so I can order the correct replacement please?
Here are the 2 options, as well as what the current one looks like.

Your help is much appreciated - thank you in advance!

Scott

I had the same problem in my '47. It has a 235 from a '57 Bel Air, but is using the flywheel and clutch from a '54 passenger car. The part number from your clutch should be stamped on the face (mine is 3835216) and you can look it up at http://www.gmpartswiki.com/query to find what model year and size you need. Hope this helps!

What you have is a 9 hole 11" clutch, they were used on big trucks of the era. You can't get a new one but you can get it rebuilt or do what I did and have your machinist drill the flywheel to match the six hole clutch. You may also need to get the flywheel balanced as for some reason these clutches and flywheels were balanced as a unit.
The other option is to get a new flywheel for your truck. if you do this you'll have to know which starter you have (6 volt or 12 volt) as the number of teeth on the ring gear is different.

I'd look for a 6 bolt flywheel or find a machinist who has done this before and knows exactly what he is doing.

Send the parts to HR Clutch in Bensalem, PA and have the parts professionally and correctly rebuilt. Second generation shop, they are excellent. They are easy to talk to and easy to deal with. I have used them for 40 years.
