1946 Chevy truck. Does anyone know what this hole is for on the door edge? Both doors. It is not threaded and a solid metal plate is directly under it. Is it for a rubber bumper? Harold

Harold I checked my ‘46 and both doors also have those holes. Out of curiosity I checked my ‘37 and the doors have two holes each but only about 1/4 inch in diameter. As you found, there aren’t any threads and each hole had a piece of metal at or almost touching the backside of each hole. I don’t know the purpose of these. My guess is they served someway during the production line run? There doesn’t seem to be near enough meat there to grasp a rubber bumper and have it stay in place for long.
Thanks for your comments. My thoughts are as yours. I looked at the parts book for doors and there was NO mention of this hole. So it must have left the factory as we see it now. It does look like a good place for water to enter and run inside the door. Maybe that is one reason so many doors you see for sale have the bottom rusted out. Harold
