I acquired a used 261. I am currently bench testing it.
Engine starts on first revolution. Runs strong, no smoke.
With valve cover off, I see no oil coming out of the small tube curling over the rocker arm.
That concerns me.
I removed the in and out connection from the oil filter but get no oil flowing there either when engine is running.

Does the oil pump require it to be “primed” and if so, how to do that.

Any advice appreciated.

Dumb question... Is there oil in it? If you had it running, you should of, in short form, have oil moving. Pull da pan. See what in there. Or whats not? ohwell

What's the oil pressure at the main oil gallery fitting at the driver's side of the engine just behind the exhaust flange? If you don't know, find out. No oil at the filter line is NOT a good sign. Don't try to run the engine any more until you figure out what's going on. Has the distributor been removed recently? If it's not seated properly in the block, the engine will run but the oil pump won't turn.

How big are the oil lines going to and from the filter? If the engine is set up for "full flow" filtering, the oil filter canister will be very large, and there will be BIG metal lines going to and from the filter. A "bypass" filter will have a smaller housing, and small-diameter flexible lines at the inlet and outlet.

Can he Remove distributor and use the drill with large flathead piece to see if oil will flow up to rocker arms? I did that on my 235 Before fire up.
