Soo, I have a 1953 Chevy 3600 with its original 216. My question of the day is: on the intake/exhaust manifolds mounting bolt .....keepers i quess, there is the letter "F" stamped in the metal. (it's the things that the bolts go through to hold on the manifolds on the engine), are these dirrectional? If it wasn't for all the crud on everything I would have noticed the "F" when I took them off. Just want to do it right the first time.

I thought maybe "F" means front.....or firewall I quess...other than the letter they don't appear to be dirrectional.

If I can figure out what you are talking about(picture would help) those devices are located in two places, depending on which manifolds they secure, no chance to get the wrong fit. Make sure to use brass nuts, easily secured at Mc Master-Carr, etc. if you ever want to take it apart again.

Also do not tighten the inter manifold bolts until both manifolds are secured to the head first,

Ed

The F is likely a maker's mark, so don't worry. The short keepers go on each end. On a 216 there are studs, without threads on each end, to assist in alignment of the manifold (along with alignment rings for the intake). The manifold assembly is held with bolts (no nuts) so you could use anti-seize on the threads to assist in removal in the future. I believe Ed's picture is for a GMC engine.

Thank you for the replies, sorry for no puctures, my phone doesn't process pictures verry well. I have inatalled the manidolds now and I agree that they are not directional. I did tighten the manifolds to the head (good call Ed) before tightening the two manifolds together.
