'36-'39 style gauges: I purchased a set of stainless bezels when I saw a bargain (at least compared to the $100/set regular price I see) The originals were pretty dented to mangled...but the glass? I know I can have circles cut and with patience I could even do it myself but the originals are not flat. The speedo is really scratched, one of the smaller ones usable though with some scratches, the other missing. I havent seen suppliers offering the convex/bulged glass original style or is it something a good glass shop can do. As a former art prof. I've done a lot of glass slumping but no longer have access to a kiln for DIY attempts. Comments?

I will look at my stash of gauge parts and see if I have extras. I do not know of a source for new glass with the proper concave contour. I think few would notice if you had to go with flat glass. Larry, I will PM you after I take a look.

thanks. i cant imagine how the speedo glass got so damaged unless it had to do with the black spray paint job someone did on the dash without masking off and then wanted to be able to read the gauges and used sandpaper! lol

I had a 56 pontiac ambulance that had plastic instead of glass, and someone spray painted them. I started thinking about it and how bad brake fluid is to paint, and how its safe for plastic, so i gave it a try. took the paint off and didnt hurt the lenses at all. not sure what the actual gauges are coated or painted with though. Old dot 3 not the new stuff.
