I have a 1950 chev truck 3100 with a 1956 open drive differential with a 3.90. ratio with a 9.375 diameter gear. I am doing a full restoration and I am committed already to a 261 engine a T5 transmission from a 1985 s10 with a .76 OD. I was thinking the 3.90 and the .76 with my 16 inch tires would be a reasonable daily driver . However I took the differential into a specialty shop for a service and was told that the gear set was "severely worn " and that chances of finding another set in good condition would be difficult to say the least. I know I could switch the differential out but I also already have the correct axle conversion kit, rim and tires for the six lug so I am still thinking the path of least resistance is to track down a 3.90. I tried on line Tom's Drive line but they list in a older catalog only the 3.38 which would not work well with the T5 . I have tried other online sites and no luck. I have a phone call out for used ones but of course no guarantees he used one would be any better that what I have. Any suggestions as to locating a 3.90 or other thoughts would be appreciated

Im running a 65-66 Chev rear axle under my '46 (had to keep artillery rims), this diff is 3:08 ratio and is just fine with my T-5 and it's low gear in first. A bit high geared but was a gift and I like it just fine. I'd jump on the 3.38! Best of luck
