There's freedom of movement on the riser, as turning it with my hand is a snap (I understand these things stick quite regularly).
If anybody has a picture they could post regarding the spring, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm assuming it doesn't install internally, meaning within the exhaust manifold. Thanks in advance for your help!! | | |

The shaft should have a slot on one side and a pin on the side of the riser. The center of the spring goes in the slot and the outside of the spring will have a curl or a loop to fit on the pin. You may have to wind the spring a tad to get it to stay snug on the pin. Don't wind it too tight (that is an extra turn after it already has tension. If the pin has rusted off, you may be able to drill a small hole and use a roll pin, but if there is a lot of play on the shaft, you may have to replace the valve. Hope this helps.

When viewed from the front of the truck the shaft is rotated clockwise when cold, then rotates CCW as spring heats up In the 57 manual it says the spring should only be turned 1/2 turn from where it rests when it's not hooked on. Hope this helps.......
