I replaced the 1-2 shift fork and now tranny won't shift into 4th gear. Shifts smoothly in all other gears. It feels like it's partially going into 4th just not all the way. I replaced the shift fork shaft detent springs and ball bearings so I know the forks are moving smoothly. I also replaced the shift lever and alignment pins so the lever has no slop. I've tried turning the input shaft as I'm shifting with no luck. I'm at a loss guys. It's a muncie sm420

Posting the same question in multiple forums is not within Stovebolt rules.

Could one of the detent balls have rolled out into the shift rail channel keeping the rail rod from traveling all the way?

If everything was working before you took the tower off, you need to take it off again and retrace your steps.

When you get the top off make sure you can more the 3 -4 syncro into 4th. Rule out that go back over the cover. Do you have a service manual?

Yes, it was shifting fine before I rebuilt it. A detent ball out of place is a possibility. The only other thing I can think of is the synchronizer isn't seated properly. I have a service manual that I refer to on a regular basis. This is the first transmission I've rebuilt. I'm using the Novac rebuild kit which has better instructions than the service manual. Everything was sliding and rotating in the case before I put the top on so I'm pretty sure the problem is in the shift tower but anything is possible. Thanks for the help guys.
