I removed the fill spout on my 3600 under bed tank today. I am going to build a new tank and will reuse the spout. I was going to look at the sending unit but there was a baffle in the way. But I found this instead.

Thats quite a find. Got to wonder, what they were doing when they lost that set of pliers!

Nice find! That sending unit should come right out the top. I removed the original sending unit from my '48 Chevy that was frozen tight but after a few days of soaking with Deep Creep it freed up. Still working a couple of years later even with the original cork float.

I threw them in a can of E85 to clean off the gunk, used a small hand wire brush to clean the rest off. no. 226 MADE IN THE USA . Does anybody recognize them? I also found a double open end wrench laying on the cement that fell after I removed the wood bed in the box. Definitely from back in that time period.

Looks like the ones that came in the "took kit"...is there a "V" cast into the handles?

Exactly where on the handles? They are quite worn.

The early OEM tool kit had two tool suppliers, one of which was Vilchek, the other McKaig-Hatch. Vilchek would mark their tools with a V. One easily identifiable Vilchek characteristic is a "swoop" in the handles which yours don't have. I have no idea how long GM used those suppliers.
The V is to the left of the Forged in USA stamp.

Additional info.

Look on the inside of the handle grips...they stamped the knurled grips on the outside and the "V" (if there at all) on the inside all in one press.

They could just be a pair of hardware store cheapies...but they still have a neat story!

No markings on handle. It is not like the picture in Tony’s post, these are stamped most likely, as the jaws are much thinner than most pliers.
