I’ve got a 58 gmc 370. The electric two speed axle motor has finally given up. I took it to my small town electric place - the armature is completely fried in it (not to mention he thinks the armature wasn’t the right one to start with) and he hasn’t the faintest idea where he can get any parts for it. I haven’t seen one for sale anywhere (new or used). All of those advertised are way too big - mine is a two bolt motor attachment to the spring housing. All of the new ones are three bolt and way bigger than mine. Mine is about the circumference of a paper towel tube and four inches long or so. I’m just fine with something used, I just can’t find anything at all in my area that isn’t Chevy. The truck is a backup but still hauls loads for me so it’s pretty worthless without an operable two speed. I hate to buy a replacement “backup” truck and part this one out but I’m about there. The new tires on it and good 270 make it pretty useable yet on the farm.

It sounds like you have a Timken/Rockwell 2 speed. They didn't use many of them. It makes no difference what truck they are in: Chevy Ford or whatever the shift motor will be the same if it is an old Timken two speed. I haven't seen one around in a long time. I think this old GMC has a Timken 2 speed, but it is vacuum shift.

I would consider replacing the entire rear axle with an Eaton Electric 2 Speed. Lots of old field trucks had them. Most Chev and GMC two tons used a vacuum two speed that left a lot to be desired. I think just all Ford, International and Dodge used an Eaton electric two speed.
