I want to purchase a rear end for this truck. It is currently on a caprice frame. I found a stock frame but it does not have a rear end. I have received quotes for complete rear ends from two companies. One says the stock rear end width is 56 inches and the other says 62 inches. Does anyone know the correct stock rear end width (axle flange to axle flange). Thanks.

I am 65 miles down the road in Metairie, la., have one from a 57 will measure in a little bit when the sun gets higher in the sky. I have a 59 shortbed stepside also. Check your mail I can't send you a private message about the rear end.

Looks like 62-62 1/2, the axles are not in mine right now, as I have it taken apart.

I don't know how original you're wanting to stay, but.... Have you thought about a modern rearend? The 04-12 Chevy Colorado Z85 and Z71 trucks had a rear that was 60-62" wms. They have a 6x5.5 bolt pattern, but metric lugs. The rim centers are larger, so aftermarket wheels would be required. You can get ratios from 4.10, 3.73, and 3.42. A quick search on car-part.com show they can be had for cheap all over the country.
