I bet Hotrod has run into this problem wit 235's and large oil filter. The engine runs great, some oil leakage on new front oil seal. After about 100 miles of driving it will loose a quart and will not drop any until next oil and filter change. Any ideas what could be going on. Oil pressure is low with 6 quarts then comes bake up to 30 with five. Doc

It sounds like you're overfilling the crankcase enough to let the rods whip air into the oil. Foamy oil doesn't pressurize like straight liquid. That extra quart will find its way out of any little crevice, or it will get pulled through the road draft tube. Once the level drops enough to keep the rods from whipping it up, the leakage and/or oil burning stops. I'd suggest doing a 5 qt. oil change, not 6, and marking the dipstick accordingly. The filter canister won't hold a full quart- - - -the metering orfice in the standpipe will let almost half the oil in the filter canister gravity drain back into the oil pan when the engine stops.

Thanks Jerry, I don't think there are any two of these old boy's that act the same. Even though they are simple they can have many different ailments. I will do just that, here in Florida I have always used Casterol 30 wt, any reason to change after 32,000 miles?

If it works for you, keep on keepin' on! I use 15W-40 in everything on our place, cars, trucks, lawn mowers, tillers, generators, pressure washer, and even my Harley soft tail. Buying one kind of oil in 5-gallon pails from the farm store keeps life simple!
