Is it possible to burn valves and doing engine damage driving about 3-5 miles with open headers to a muffler shop to get exhaust connected to headers? Recently read an article someone thinking they damaged there engine doing just that driving to muffler shop
Engine in question is a 235 Chevy.

That's a myth. I've run racing engines with open headers for hundreds of laps with no valve damage whatsoever. Maybe if there was no exhaust manifold at all, there might be a little bit of exhaust valve damage, but even then, the engine would have to be run at wide open throttle uphill for miles.

Latroca 52 At the dirt track you see the rough guys race without the manifolds even on there. At night you could see all the valves were red hot they ran all evening !

Thanks for reply’s just trying to figure out drive the truck to the muffler shop or have it towed to the muffler shop it’s probably 10 miles away or less.
Duel exhaust need be redone after installing Fenton headers and removing split manifold

Sounds like a giant leap backwards- - - - -what are you doing for intake manifold heat?

I installed a Fenton duel carb intake manifold with the heat plate and copper tube connected to the exhaust manifold.

Be nice Jerry ... 😉

Lots of guys love the looks and sound of a dual/dual setup on a straight 6 – else they wouldn’t have been selling them for 70 years.

I agree, modest gains in power will be achieved...

It takes a very creative approach to plumbing in order get any heat to the intake with that heat plate- - - -it's mostly there for looks, and it doesn't supply anywhere near the same amount of fuel atomization from heat transfer that a stock exhaust manifold provides. Plus, a 2-carb setup needs a lot more, not less heat to work efficiently. Splitting a stock manifold, or finding one of the "scarce as hens' teeth" Corvette dual exhaust manifolds is a much better approach. Like somebody said a while back, fancy intake and exhaust systems components are not "fashion accessories".
