I got this 3/4 H.P. bench grinder from my brother when he passed away years ago and he got it from my dad. It's probably 40 to 50 years old I'd guess. Anyway.....it has a stone on both sides so I thought I would get a wire wheel for it instead of using my wire brush. I quickly found out that a 7" wheel with a 1/2" arbor is not so easy to find. Looks like 6" and 8" are common in the stores. Can't find anything local so I'll have to order whatever I can find.

Nice! Go with the smaller wire wheel and remove the tool rest on the wire wheel side so it won't suck your work between it and the wire wheel. As far as how old, it's less than 57 yrs old. Zip codes came into use in 1963.

Most universal wire wheels come with large center holes and reducer bushings as part of the packaging. Try Victor Machinery Co. as one shopping option- - - - -they generally have better quality stuff that what's available on Ebay, at pretty reasonable prices.

Wear your glasses, people! I was wheeling one day and had a wicker smack me in the forehead. Ouch. I thought no more about, it happens and I had my glasses on. Driving home from the farm (where I was wheeling), I went to adjust/scratch my hat/head and OUCH!!
What the?!

I examined the rear view mirror and found that that wicker was stuck about 3/8”’above my eyebrows right between my eyes! It had been there at least 30 minutes without me knowing.
I always face shield up now. I ask myself, “Do I want to see what my kids look like when I’m old?”

An angle grinder put one of those crinkly wires from a cup wheel through a pair of jeans and 3/4" into my thigh. There was just enough sticking out to grab it with vise grips- - - -tweezers couldn't get enough of a grip to pull it out. My next stop was the doc's office for a tetanus booster shot! Jerry

Hello, I have had the same problem. having a Craftsman grinder with 7 inch wheels can be a bummer. Try your local NAPA store. They were able to order me a 7 inch wire wheel, not cheap, but it works.
