While cruising YouTube the other night, I watched a video by Brothers Truck Parts showing the installation of a dual master cylinder kit. The guy mentioned that it was desireable to use a remote master cylinder reservoir instead of having to get under the truck to take the top off the master cylinder to check the fluid level. So I have two questions: first, how difficult is it really to check your fluid level through the stock hole in the floor? I'm guessing it's not very easy to get the two clamps off the top of the master cylinder (let along put them back on) through that hole. You'd pretty much have to get under the truck to do that much. Second, does anyone use one of these remote reservoirs, and if so, where does it mount and how is it plumbed into the master cylinder? I'd love to see some photos.

Thanks,
Brian

I did the dual master conversion and changed the location of the hole in the floor. The location is right on top of the dual master cylinder but it is still a pain to take clip off and on to check fluid.

That is why I converted to firewall mounted, easy to do. I used hydro boost, but vacuum also works.

When I replaced the hydraulic side of my brakes about 5 yrs ago I added a Wilwood remote reservoir. It's translucent so I can see the level without opening it. It's mounted on the back cab wall behind the left seat. I tapped a pipe X tubing elbow into the top of the master cylinder cap. Had to add a slight bump in the cover in the floor for clearance. However my floor is "non-stock". Its a piece of 3/4" plywood with a piece of sheet metal for the master cylinder cover. So far it appears it has worker well, no leaks, fluid has no discoloration.

Jerry,
My ‘55.2 GMC 370, but, they might be the same, I’ll look when it gets light.

Interesting stuff, guys! Thanks for posting! I got off my butt and Googled remote brake reservoirs. Lots of options and it looks like something I may want to do.

I have a Corvette style Dual MC under the floor with a Dual Remote on the firewall. The Hot Rod vendors sell a MC cover with the 90* fitting installed...ran 1/4" copper between them and filled it up!

For remote M/C, check out HEXMCRK3 at Summitt Racing.
I struggled with a kit from POL (performance online), which had numerous issues and leaked
This kit by Helix is far superior and although more expensive, way better in the long run
