Well, I purchased the run channel clips, like the originals, from Steel Rubber products and I don't know how to install them. I could try the trial and error method, but would rather not. I watched Jerry Kassis' method of installing the run channels using sheet metal screws and that's definitely an option, but I hate to waste the money I spent , and no they were not cheap. Any suggestions ?

I asked the same question a few years ago; how to use those clips. Posted a picture just like your picture. In the end, I didn't use them and glued the channel to the door. Seems gluing is a common solution.

Hey Gord, yep I'm right there with you. I watched Jerry Kassis from the Filling Station's YouTube series on rebuilding the doors and it was a fantastic group of video how-to's. His method ,which he performs in the video, is to use #4 Sheet metal screws in five locations...
Anyway here's where I'm at, I'm waiting on a call back from Steele Rubber Products. They are going to see if they can give me input on how its done. I'll update this post, however it turns out. I'm hoping I have not just added to " my box of unusable new parts" , lol.

Those prongs on the clips are poked thru the run channel and bent over slightly to secure them. At least that's the way they were when I removed the old ratty run channel from my doors. I have a couple of those on order (most were salvageable) and will attempt to install them that way when I get to that point. Although looking at your pics, and inspecting the run channel support that screws into the door, it appears I'm still missing the ones with the hook on them.
And yes those little steel bits are expensive!

Kevin, what you've said is pretty much what the guys at Steele Rubber told me. I suppose I expected too much from Steele.

Good video. I'm going to attempt to install the run channel clips. I'll update the post regardless of which method I go with.

Thanks Gord,Kevin, your help is appreciated. Thanks to Fox for the Video.

The lengths have been know to be off. A dry fit might be helpful

I glued mine, only used the clips in the door channels at the bottoms
Also glued my anti rattle strip.. its held for 9 years so far.

I did not have a way to bend those staples.

Agreed, bending those tangs is going to be a challenge, the guys at Steele Rubber told me it was tempered steel and that they can break. Suggested using a piece of wood cut just wide enough to fit inside the run channel and an arbor press to "push" the run channel clip though the metal backing and then crimp the tangs with a punch after turning the run channel over and removing the wood strip. Suggested that would allow the tangs to go into the soft wood. I'll update you how this turns out. Thanks, again, Dads50.

There use to be a moderator here Alan Horvath, he had a 54 and had his own web site with good tips and pics. He had a good write up on the window channels and wiper. Cant find him or his web site anymore.

The staples I was referring to are for the felt wipes.

His web site had a tip to use small sheet metal screws. The heads would get buried by the fuzzies

He was a good moderator , helped in electric bay also, .R.I.P.

I got it finished ! I used the #4 Sheet metal screws and just like everyone said, they buried into the fuzzy material and "disappeared" . I watched Jerry Kassis on youtube and sort of followed his lead . I drilled the holes and then installed the screws, one at a time.
