I'm trying to return a 1960 235 engine back to stock condition. This motor was modified using a 216 harmonic balancer, 216 fan pulley, and a water pump with the shaft cut off. I have a fan pulley (will fit a long shaft water pump) from a 58 to 62 235 for a 3/8" wide belt. I'm having trouble locating a 7 1/4" diameter harmonic balancer for a 3/8" belt. Any ideas to bring this back to stock would be apreciated. I will temporarily use this engine in my 51 GMC truck.

I guess I was looking for guidance as to pulley width for this engine. When I figure out what I need I'll search for the parts. It seems this engine may have come with a 1/2" or a 3/8" belt width but I'm just not sure of anything anymore.
Belts are belts- - - -they're not some exotic item that will cause the truck to self-destruct if a slightly out of spec one is used. As long as the fan, water pump, and charging system works, who cares if a tiny fraction of an inch of width is different? A belt 11 MM (7/16") wide will work on either a 3/8" or a 1/2" pulley with a minimum of hassle. Getting anal-retentive about details might be fine for a truck that's shooting for a 100-point score at a concours car show. Otherwise, shouldn't a little bit of common sense be applied? Jerry

Locate a hardware store (not a Lowe's or Home Depot) that sells Mitsuboshi (not Mitsubishi) belts. They're cheaper, they wear well and don't stretch over time. I paid $13 for a belt for the water pump and the alternator to A/C compressor...total for both belts.
