What is the best solution to by all you need to add a complete power steering equipment

Look on EBay. Hooks directly to J shaped left spindle arm. Other options would be to mount GMC 3500 HD( non P axle) whole front axle and replace the left, inside frame steering gear with an outside frame gear like GMC 4wd, etc. units, have to extend angled tie rod. Moves tie rod to front of axle.

I had a '57 chevy 4 door hardtop with all the bells and whistles and power steering. the pump attached to the rear of the generator. there may be a factory setup for a '56 pickup.

Like the car it was an assist which supplemented the stock steering box and also used the generator mounted steering pump. They were rare and likely not many around now. They didn't work well if the gear box and related components were worn. There was an aftermarket unit on the market for a while that used a similar control valve and ram.
I installed one on my 56 but it didn't give a good feel on the road. I ultimately replaced it with the Toyota conversion which is likely what Ed is referring to. There is a lot of information on this site about PS conversions.

The 400 series is referred to as a Vega box, however, no one has ever seen. ‘Vega’ box like this?

| | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,097 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,097 | Due to the demand and limited availability of the stock Toyota steering boxes (available on 84-87 4X4 trucks) the aftermarket came out with a replacement which has a new casting that mounts directly to the TF frame. I'm sure each vendor has assigned it a name or number to make it sound like they have some exclusive product. Basic same product and they work well. Maybe some call it a Vega box to appeal to the street rod folks.
