I picked up a 52 GMC earlier this year. It's actually in pretty good shape. Now winter setting in here in Wyoming so it's time to start fixing things. Right now I'm working on the ooga horn that was on the truck. When I took it apart it looked like it may have gotten hot. All the chemical insulation had melted and oozed out of the electrical motor. The motor won't turn. The horn probably not original to the truck. But I think it's old. It had steel rivets holding it together. I'm in search of a electric motor. This one is sealed. I'm not having much luck attaching the pictures. Hope they come thru as it won't do much good if they don't.
It's up to you, but I usually can fix 6v or 12V motors of any kind with a little TLC and oil. Nothing is "sealed". If they can put it together, you can take it apart. Why throw it away without trying? Start with taking those nuts off of the studs and see if cans will separate. With a little tapping and twisting and tugging. I have fixed starter motors, generators, heater fan motors, etc. That motor is no different. It will have your standard rotor/armature/commutator. stator/magnets, brushes... Probably dirty, carboned, rusty, brushes worn down, wire fell off, needs oiled. Probably several of those. Be SURE you have the horn fused!!!!!!!!!

What you don't see is the entire housing was full of a black goo. It all came from the the hole where the wire go into the can. I didn't want to take it apart until I tried to find a replacement. But I will take it apart tomorrow and post some pic.
