Excerpt from the 47-54 Factory Assembly Manual . Can somebody tell me if the Hub Cover Assembly 3701357 is supposed to be on a 51 3100?

As you know, the 47-54 Factory Assembly Manual is actually for 1954/55st Chevrolet trucks.

And, as you know, the steering wheel and the steering column changed in 1954.

And, as you probably know, the 47-53 Shop Manual does not show what is under the steering wheel (at the "joint between the steering column and the steering wheel).

You are asking the right question. Maybe someone will post a photograph?

Don't have a pic, but there's no hub cover assembly below the steering wheel on my '51. The steering column tube is straight from the bottom to the underside of the steering wheel.

If this helps, this is a '49. Doesn't look like any hub on this either. If it stops raining I can go out and take the cover off to get a better photo, I am hoping to drive it today anyway.

All good info. Any idea why the horn blows without any steering wheel internals?

There are two styles available one with and one without turn signals, I believe they were used from ‘54 to ‘59.

Is the wire that runs inside the column removed as well? That could easily be shorted to ground. Woven insulation cover may be rotted away and the vinyl insulation brittle, cracked, and flaking off.

That wire is free and not making contact.

Couple more I just took of mine ('49), although it looks resolved.
