| | | | Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 1,094 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 1,094 | I have a 1959 261 engine in my truck, the owners book for the truck say the capacity is 5qts oil. Now these engines did not come with an oil filter, so does the pan hold 4qts plus 1 with a filter? 4 qts. shows full on the dipstick, I checked the original 235 engine and the dipstick was the same length and showed the same marks on the dipstick. It did not have a filter on the 235 either.
I'm thinking for the last 12 years, I've put 5 qts. in when I've changed the oil. Or could I be not remembering what I've been doing for the past 12 yrs.
