One of the fittings on my 261 for routing oil to the head/rockers sticks out too far for me to use the cast aluminum side cover I have. The original stamped cover has a relief pressed into it to accommodate the fitting that the cast covers don't.
I am considering removing the line under the pushrod cover, plugging the connections, and then running a line from where the filter (now full flow) connections are, directly to the side of the head where the plug is in this photo. That plug is at the top end of the galley that feeds the rockers.

The head I'm using is an 848 from a 235 and I'm not really sure what the plugged passage into the main galley was originally intended for...in fact, in a lot of the pics I've seen of 235s and 261s, it's just plugged.

Anyone think there'd be any issue doing this??

There is no problem running an external line. Just be sure to use the fitting that is screwed into the block at the rear originally, in the new setup. That fitting has a 1/16” hole in it to restrict the flow to the rockers.
Also be sure to plug both holes under the side cover.

You are good to go. My 12port Charlie Baker Offy bootleg side cover has the same issue. I did exactly what you are contemplating and no problem. Plug the boss by the rear cam bearing, and other more central port. Run the out put from the driver side block to the upper port on the side of the head. You need to use a line, with an Id about the same size as the stock oil filter line, or a little larger then the copper line for a gauge. The photo is part of a kit that used to be sold to essentially do the same thing when the line behind the side cover clogged up. It’s not a great photo but you get the idea on size. Once done, just make sure the rockers are dribbling, not spitting. If spitting, the line is likely too large.
