Any ideas on why this would occur? Goes in fine on al lthe other gears. It has a 327 V8 with 305 heads, the tranny is the original 4 gear manual shift.

Whats down in the well comes up in the bucket, so watch who's KoolAid you drink.

Unless the 59 box is fully synchro, but I am assuming it is not. Otherwise it is probably the clutch.

#13751 10/21/2003 6:23 PM | Joined: Mar 2001 Posts: 77 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Mar 2001 Posts: 77 | yep your clutch is not fully releasing pressureplate could be warped and draging the cluch disc or binding on the inputshaft splines or pilot bearing and causing the gears to roll now if you can get it into 2nd without grinding it may be better to put it into 2nd that will stop all the gear roll then put it into 1st or reverse now the big trucks have a clutch brake and that stops the inputshaft rotation so you can get them into gear

You have to be close to a full stop and wait a second for the input shaft to stop spinning after pushing in the clutch. Then you will get it to go into gear. 2nd-4th gears have syncro's that match the speed of the mating gears so they can mesh smoothly.
If you cant get it into 1st or reverse at all after stopping and waiting a few seconds then you may need to adjust your clutch linkage to be sure your clutch is fully disengaging. | | |

This works on all man. trans. If it still grind ajust clutch you might also have a hanging pilot bearing Big ttucks have a clutch brake to stop the gears | | |
