Have had this 52 for about 10 years but never started working on it. Finally a neighbor with a '46 offered to help me get it in shape. It has been fun and an lot of work. Have not used StoveBolt so want to know how to ask technical questions...such as how to I repair a vent window that has dry rot. Any help in navigating the website would be appreciated.

Welcome to Stovebolt.

Asking a technical question is as easy as when you posted this thread in the Welcome Centre forum.
Browse thru the list of forums and pick the one that's the most appropriate to your question.
You can also use the search function and find lots of information. Click on the spyglass icon near the upper right of the screen.

As to your vent window with dry rot, try browsing around in the Doors subforum of the Paint and Body fourm. That's a task I have to deal with myself, but haven't tackled it yet.

Welcome to the Stovebolt madness! There is no cure. shake

The site is broken down into many sub-forums dealing with specific areas of your truck. Scroll through them and post your questions in the most appropriate forum. Be sure to start your own thread unless answering someone else’s questions. Always post year/model of your vehicle in the initial post.
We’re here to help.

Welcome to Stovebolt, Lenny. you are at the right place. Hey, I see your in N.C. I'm just across the line in Spartanburg S.C. so if your ever down this way the hot dogs and cold Pepsi are on me.

The 52 AD style pickup are nice. Push button outside door handles and wing vents. I restored a 52 panel but recently sold it after 13 years. Take some time and get use to the site. Visit the tech tips, gallery pictures and be sure to visit the Swap Meet for parts needed or for sale.
First suggestion would be to buy a factory assembly manual and a shop repair book. However, until you get them you can vist the on line manuals here... http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/

Enjoy the the project....oh, one more thing, As a new member you are moderated for your first 4 post to make sure your not a spider or someone unwanted lurking around....after 4 post you can send PM (private messages) to other bolters and enjoy all Stovebolt has to offer.....so get to asking some questions and get that post count to 4 or 5 and let the fun begin.

See you around the garage.

Welcome to the Bolt from a fellow North Carolinian! I am working on a '51-3100 5-window and this site has been a wealth of information for me. What part of NC are you in? I'm in Elizabeth City. Enjoy your project!!

Lenny - I have a cousin in Horse Shoe, is that anywhere near you? Survived Isaisis with no major damage, only lost one large old tree, so I have my work cut out for me for a while. No working on the '51 until it's all cleaned up! The '51 is nearing the end of the metal-working stage and beginning the body-working stage so it's not very pretty yet. Can send you photos when I'm further along.

Hey Charlie,
Sorry about the old tree coming down. Hopefully some good firewood! I'm about 70 miles west of Horse Shoe, but still closer than you! I have been fixing smaller rust spots, cutting and replacing sheet metal. Nothing big or too serious. Lucky to have an overall rust free truck. Only small holes in the floor boards. Pulled the windshield(s) out yesterday. easier to paint and also wanted to put new rubber in. Right now is is just the chassis (with engine) and the cab. I have removed the bed, fenders, inner fenders, doors, seat etc so it is a mess right now. Luckily, I have a neighbor with a '46 Chevy and he has been a great help. Once I am able, will post some pix.

Lenny,
I recommend you take lots of pictures during your disassembly phase and bag and tag all of your removed parts and hardware. It will make things much easier during reassembly and mock up. Don't rely on your memory, especially if you're an old guy like me! Enjoy your project!!

To add on to what Clarsen said about bagging and tagging. Clean the parts as you remove them, maybe even paint the small parts.

I ended up with bags of parts all over my garage, so I bought a small shelf unit and a bunch of clear plastic bins. I arranged all the parts by area of the truck in the bins. It's much easier to find the parts for the "Dash" if they are bagged in a bin marked "Dash"!

Hi Charlie and Rusty Rod,
Thanks for the advice on tagging and bagging. I started putting the parts in ziplock bags of various sizes to fit the part, with a note about what and where it goes. Unfortunately I have not done a great job of taking pictures and a detailed disassembly log....wish I had. Yes, my memory is not a good as it once was! Will start now however following your advice.

Thanks
Lenny
