I've already installed a bolt-in IFS from Speedway Motors. I also purchased from Speedway the engine mounts for the LT1. Do any of you know what type of tranny crossmember, i.e., drop I'll need for this setup? I have yet to remove the original rear engine and transmission crossmembers...they're next on the "to do" list. In regards to removing the tranny crossmember, is it possible to modify it for the 4L60E transmission? I realize at a minimum it will need to be relocated. (Monetary concern is a universal crossmember runs around $100. I will have to pay for someone to modify the original if I go that route.) Looking for suggestions. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 | Hy Rocket man, a word of caution, the original rear of engine crossmember is a very important frame support and its function needs to be replicated by a strong replacement that will clear your "new" engine/transmission. You can make the original crossmember replacement removable if you like, but it must be a strong design! | | | | | Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,275 Renaissance Man | | Renaissance Man Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,275 | I second what 3B said about the riveted-on engine crossmember. You can use the original bolted on transmission crossmember to support the rear of the automatic transmission. You will likely need to slide it rearward some.

I'm running an '81 Camaro rear with 3" lowering blocks if this is any determining factor. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,275 Renaissance Man | | Renaissance Man Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,275 | I can't answer that question. I have set up two trucks with 350/TH400 and was able two move the crossmember back 4 inches to secure the rear of the transmission while retaining a level engine.

I do not know how low you plan on having your engine/transmission, nor how lowering the rear of the truck will affect pinion angle. You are going to have to figure out the rear transmission mount as you go along with the build.

"IF" I can just move them fore and aft and maintain a level engine I'll be money ahead. For once I would like to beat the stovebolt vendors at their game! | | |
