Mine is currently set on 500, and works pretty well. Any lower than that, the oil pressure starts to drop off and it starts to sputter.

Shop Manuals show settings ranges from 400 RPM (1937) to 450/475 RPM (1962).
Sometimes it depends on equipment on the truck/engine and the size of the truck.
